There’s a lot of things right now making 2019 look bleak for the Redskins, so here are some things you can look forward to :
1) The Return of Derrius Guice :
Guice was easily the most hyped up rookie for the Redskins since RG3. He unfortunately tore his ACL in the preseason, but looked electric in his tiny dosage. He’s expected to make a full recovery and be the Redskins lead-back in 2019.
2) Ryan Kerrigan breaking the All-Time Redskins Sack Record :
Kerrigan currently sits at 2nd All-Time for the Redskins in Sacks with 84.5. The record is 91.0 held by Dexter Manley. Kerrigan needs 6.5 to break the record and has never had a season with under 7.5 sacks in his career. So yeah, it’s happening.
3) The Progression of the Redskins Young DL :
The Defensive Line has quickly gone from the largest weakness of the team to the largest strength. Jonathan Allen, Daron Payne and Matt Ioannidis all were studs in 2018. The oldest of the three (Ioannidis) is 25 so the future is very bright in that area. Don’t forget about Tim Settle too who looked good in relief time.
4) The Return of Injured Players :
Injuries have been the tale of the 2017 and 2018 Redskins. Hopefully 2019 holds healthier times, but getting guys back will be huge. Brandon Scherff, Quinton Dunbar, and Paul Richardson are all good players for this team. Scherff is easily a Top 5 Guard, Dunbar looked legit when healthy and Richardson is the best Redskins receiver right now.
5) A New Linebacker Duo :
With Zach Brown and Mason Foster both probably on the way out, that opens two spots to fill in the middle of the defense and the Redskins probably already have their replacements. Shaun Dion Hamilton took over late in the year and looked better than both Brown and Foster. Signs point to Reuben Foster playing and he was a very good player for the 49ers during his time there. Having two new young LBs behind that defensive line can work wonders for this defense.
6) The best rookie in 2018 returns :
You all know who I’m talking about, Trey Quinn is coming back!
