Round 1. Pick #15 – Deionte Thompson. S, Alabama
Big. Mean. Hard-hitting. The list of words used to describe Deionte Thompson could go on forever. Thompson has the build of a true NFL SS standing at 6’2” and about 200 lbs. In his redshirt JR year at Alabama, he really came into his own, tallying up 75 tackles along with 2 INTs, 6 PDs and 3 FFs. His talent should only result in him shooting up draft boards come April, however, we have seen talented safeties slipping in recent drafts (i.e. Derwin James). Thompson is a player that Redskins fans could dream of landing at pick 15.
Round 2. Pick #46 – Hakeem Butler. WR, Iowa State
Hakeem Butler has slowly become one of my personal favourites in this 2019 NFL Draft class. He is blessed with incredible size, standing at 6’6” and about 225 lbs, Butler is not only a Red Zone threat. He has shown time and time again that he is able to make defenders miss after the catch with his 1318 yards along with 9 TDs as a redshirt junior for Iowa State. Butler is a freak athlete with a crazy catch radius. He is a plug-and-play kind of prospect that any QB would die to have. He would give the Redskins that much needed “threat” on the outside.
Round 3. Pick #76 – Brett Rypien. QB, Boise State
Most of you all know that the 2019 NFL Draft class isn’t quite known for its crazy talent at the quarterback position. Heck it might be one of the poorest classes we’ve had in a while. However, as I watch more and more of Boise State QB Brett Rypien, the more I am starting to think that he might be one of my big draft gems. Coming off a career year as a senior at Boise, Rypien tossed for 3705 yards and 30 TDs, also maintaining a solid 67.3 completion percentage along with just 7 INTs. Rypien still has to be tuned up but has all the tools I look for when scouting a QB, Size, Mobility, Accuracy and Mechanics. When looking at Rypien he checks off all the boxes and might just be a project that eventually pays off. The Redskins would be wise to select Rypien and let him mold into, what could be, their future franchise QB.
Round 3. (Projected compensatory pick from Kirk Cousins) – T.J. Edwards. LB, Wisconsin
Round 5. Pick #154 – Wyatt Ray. EDGE, Boston College
Round 5. (Projected compensatory pick from Trent Murphy) – Cody Ford. OG, Oklahoma
Round 6. (Projected compensatory pick from Ryan Grant) – Derrick Baity. CB, Kentucky
Round 7. Pick #229 – Jace Sternberger. TE, Texas A&M
Round 7. (Projected compensatory pick from Terrell Pryor) – Breiden Fehoko. DL, LSU
Great mock and especially love your work on rypien and thompson. Cody Ford in the 5th would be great but hes consistently projected as late first early second and thats what the draft advisory graded him as well. Sternberger passing the 4th is another wish.
